Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Centenary

Against First Place Centenary, Celt baseball would have their hands full in the final day of action. Despite dropping Game 2 in the afternoon, the Celts responded to avoid the sweep in extras by virtue of a Alex Trinh walk off. 

Game 2: UST 3 CEN 7

The game started off with Centenary taking control, scoring three runs in the second inning. Clay Menard's fielder's choice brought home the first run, followed by Alex Miller's two-run single, putting them ahead 3-0.

They added another run in the third inning when Jake Gonce's sacrifice fly extended their lead to 4-0.

St. Thomas tried to mount a comeback in the seventh inning, with Alex Trinh scoring on a wild pitch and Gabe Garner driving in another run with a single, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

However, Centenary responded in the ninth inning with Austyn Benoit's two-run homer, extending their lead to 7-2.

St. Thomas showed resilience in the bottom of the ninth as Mason Seay blasted a solo home run, but it wasn't enough to overcome Centenary's lead.

Game 3: UST 8 CEN 7

The game started with both teams trading blows, with Centenary taking an early lead in the first inning thanks to Jobee Boone's RBI single, answered by St. Thomas in the bottom of the inning with Gabe Garner's RBI groundout, tying the score at 1-1.

Centenary edged ahead again in the second inning with a sacrifice fly from Miles Keith, but St. Thomas quickly responded in the third inning with Mason Seay's RBI double and Jarod Smith's two-run single, giving them a 4-2 lead.

St. Thomas extended their lead to 5-2 in the fourth inning with another RBI double from Seay. However, Centenary fought back in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a passed ball and an RBI single from Clay Menard to tie the game at 4-4.

St. Thomas regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Alex Trinh scored on a wild pitch, followed by Kyle Bearden's RBI single, making it 6-4.

In the ninth inning, Centenary staged a dramatic comeback, with Jobee Boone's two-run double tying the game at 6-6, and Walker Wicklund's RBI single knotting the score at 7-7.

The game entered extra innings, where St. Thomas clinched the victory in the bottom of the tenth inning when Trinh delivered a clutch RBI single, scoring Armando Rocha and sealing the win for St. Thomas, 8-7.

Despite Centenary's resilient effort, St. Thomas demonstrated their tenacity and ability to come through in crucial moments, securing an exciting victory in a hard-fought battle.
