Box Score Brandon Ogilvie struck for his second career hat trick as No. 24 Colorado College cruised to a 6-0 victory over Concordia College on Sunday afternoon at Stewart Field.
Â
Ogilvie struck three times in a span of 13:36 as the Tigers turned a 1-0 advantage into an insurmountable four-goal lead. The senior forward converted a penalty kick in the 26th minute for his first tally, and added a pair of scores off assists from sophomore midfielder
Tommy Riley and senior
Stuart Beezley just 5:41 apart.
Â
"I'm so pleased that Brandon got a hat trick," head coach
Horst Richardson said. "I'm personally pleased that our free-kick play worked to perfection. That was the icing on the cake."
Â
Caden MacKenzie scored the only goal CC needed 20:54 into the contest. The sophomore midfielder collected a through ball from sophomore defender
Christian Wulff and slotted a shot from the left side for his second career game winner.
Â
"It took us a while to get into the game," Richardson said. "We saw them play yesterday and, to their credit, they did not play like the team they are statistically. Concordia gave us something to worry about. After the first goal we settled in and the next two by Brandon broke their back.
Â
Freshman midfielder
Tim Huettel gave Colorado College a 5-0 lead when he lofted a shot over freshman goalkeeper Alan Scheuerman from 55 yards out with less than a second remaining in the first half.
Â
MacKenzie completed the second multiple-goal game of his career when he took a feed from freshman forward
Sam Markin and put a shot from 20 yards out into the bottom left corner with a little more than 30 minutes remaining.
Â
The CC defense was just as impressive, limiting the Cobbers to just four total shots and only one that was on target.
Â
Junior
Tom Crosby didn't face a shot in his 45 minutes in goal during the first half. Junior
Ian Horne made one save in the second half to close out the Tigers' third consecutive shutout and fourth of the season.
Â
Colorado College has not allowed more than four shots on goal in six games this year.
Â
CC improved to 5-1 with its fifth consecutive victory and has outscored its opponents 18-1 during that run.
Â
Scheuerman finished with six saves for Concordia, which dropped to 0-6-0.
Â
"It's a game that turned into what seemed like a practice match for us," Richardson said. "However, it gave me an opportunity to see almost everybody play so that we can make good decisions about which players to take on next week's trip to Texas."
Â
Colorado College ventures away from home for the first time when the Tigers visit Schreiner University and Texas Lutheran University for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches on Friday and Sunday, respectively.Â
