Baseball Goes 2-1 in Conference Series Opener

Baseball Goes 2-1 in Conference Series Opener

GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Southwestern University baseball took their first conference series win this weekend against the Dallas Crusaders in just their second away trip of the season. After weather caused havoc in the Dallas metro area, the Crusaders and the Pirates settled for one game on Saturday and a doubleheader on Sunday.

The Crusaders stunned the Pirates in game one on Saturday, only going to seven innings after the Crusaders put up ten runs with Southwestern blanking on the scoreboard. Dallas scored four runs in back-to-back innings to give them an 8-0 lead. Southwestern would only hold them off until the bottom of the sixth when the Crusaders scored two more runs to make it 10-0. Unable to rally in the top of the seventh, Southwestern fell 10-0 in their first conference game of the year.

The Pirates rebounded in their first game of the doubleheader on Saturday, taking down the Crusdaers 6-5 thanks to steady scoring throughout the game. Four stolen bases in the contest helped the Pirates to get runners in scoring position, and Landon Durdin and Josh Endo recorded three hits and two RBIs each to drive those runners in.

In the series' final game, J.J. Slack started the game on the mound for the Pirates and pitched a master class. Slack shut out Dallas, recorded thirteen strikeouts with only one hit, and pitched a complete game to lead the Pirates to a 9-0 victory and a 2-1 conference series win.

Southwestern baseball will have a one-off against Concordia (TX) on Tuesday, March 21st at 6:00 PM before resuming conference plays against St. Thomas on Friday, the 24th at 6:00 PM at Rockwell Field.
