Celts race past Concordia Texas 100-68

AUSTIN, Texas – The Celts of the University of St. Thomas started Saturday's game with 13 unanswered points and continued to score at will throughout the contest as they defeated Concordia Texas 100-68.

Cameron Gims (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair HS) scored 16 points, pulled in nine rebounds, and blocked six shots Saturday to lead the Celts (4-0), who remained undefeated in the 2019-20 season. Nathan Thormaehlen (Katy, Texas/Katy HS) recorded a double-double for UST, scoring 14 points and hauling in 14 rebounds.

Nathan Ghavidel (Boerne, Texas/Champion HS) chipped in 14 points off the UST bench, while Joshua Sanchez (McAllen, Texas/McAllen Memorial HS) added 10 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

The host Tornados cut UST's lead to five points several times in the first half but got no closer for the duration of the game. UST took a 39-28 lead into halftime.

The Celts picked up right where they left off after halftime, scoring the first 11 points and 18 of the first 20 points to establish a 57-30 lead. UST's lead remained in double-digits for the entirety of the second half.

UST committed 23 turnovers compared to Concordia's 13, but won the rebounding battle 51-28. The Celts also shot 59 percent (37 of 63) from the floor and shot 53 percent (16 of 30) from 3-point range during the game.

The win was the second for the Celts over Concordia Texas this season. The Celts opened the season with a 94-74 win at home over the Tornados.

With the end of the semester approaching, the Celts will not return to the court until Thursday, Dec. 12, when they visit Mary Hardin-Baylor. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
