Fechter fuels come-from-behind win over Hendrix

Sophomore forward Matt Fechter snapped a 1-1 tie in the 77th minute to give Colorado College a 2-1 victory over Hendrix College in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.

The Tigers improved to 7-8-2 overall and 5-4-0 in the SCAC. The Tigers can clinch fifth place and secure a .500 season with a victory over Rhodes College on Sunday. The Warriors slipped to 7-8-1 overall and 3-6-1 in conference play.

Fechter chased down a long crossing pass from freshman midfielder Ben Glass, stepped around a defender and beat HC freshman goalkeeper Robbie White with a crossing shot from 15 yards out on the left side. It proved to be Fechter's fourth game-winning goal of the season and the fifth of his career.

White entered the game four minutes earlier when starting keeper Adam Legg was injured in a scramble in front of the Hendrix goal. He made four saves during the first 72:25 in net.

The Tigers tied the game 7:49 into the second half on a fortunate bounce when Fechter's corner kick eluded Legg and went directly to freshman forward Sean Parham, who was waiting for the one-touch tip in.

Hendrix got a lucky break of its own in the first half when Dylan Reed's corner kick bounced off the far post and deflected off Colorado College keeper Andy McGhie to put the Warriors on the board.

McGhie, who finished with three saves, kept CC's deficit at one goal when he made a diving stop on Ryan Menchaca's header 4:30 into the second half.

Freshman forward Brandon Ogilvie nearly tied the game during the 52nd minute, but his shot from the top of the box went off the crossbar.

The Tigers finished with an 18-9 advantage in total shots, while the Warriors had an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
