DANVILLE, Ky. – Defiance played its third-straight five-set match on Friday, this time suffering a 3-2 loss in a non-conference clash at Centre. The loss drops the Jackets to 13-9 overall for the 2009 season.
Defiance struck first with a 30-28 victory in the opener before the home squad rallied for 25-11 and 25-21 wins to take the 2-1 advantage. DC battled back to force the fifth set with a 25-18 victory but fell, 15-10, in the finale.
Danyel Lipps paced the Purple and Gold with 19 kills and six digs, while Sara Porter added 10 kills and nine digs. Julie Brunsman chipped in 16 assists to go with five digs and Heather Bradshaw added 17 digs.
DC will try to notch its first Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory of the season when it plays at Transylvania (9-10, 2-1 HCAC) on Saturday at noon.
