GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Southwestern women’s soccer
team fell 2-1 to Centre College Sunday afternoon on the tail-end of
their conference home stand to fall to 7-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in
the conference. The Colonels improve to 9-3-2 overall and 4-1-0 in
the SCAC.
The first half of the contest was an even affair as both teams had
three shots and one corner during the opening period. Centre took
the lead in the 37th minute when a lofting crossing ball drifted in
front of the Pirate’s goal and Centre’s Holly Shiels
headed it into the back of the net to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead
heading into halftime.
Junior Danielle Madison returned the favor in similar style in the
52nd minute to bring the score back even. Senior Andi Miller served
a perfectly placed corner kick into the middle of the box and
Madison charged in to head it into the net, bringing the game back
to 1-1.
Centre responded just over a minute later with the final goal of
the match when Hebbeler scored on a deflected save by senior Cheryl
Duncan to give the Colonel’s the 2-1 win.
Southwestern ended with 10 shots to Centre’s seven. Duncan
had three saves during the afternoon as did Centre’s keeper
Lenz.
The Pirates return to the road on October 24th to face conference
rival Trinity in San Antonio. Game time is slated for 5:30pm.
