Juliet Pridgen Scores Two Goals in 4-1 Victory Over JWU

DENVER, Colo. — First year forward Juliet Pridgen scored two goals on four shots to help lead the Southwestern University Pirates women's soccer team past Johnson & Wales University (Denver) with a 4-1 victory. 

Pridgen scored lated in the first half on a pass from Alexis Guajardo on a through ball from the right, putting the ball into the back of the net at the 32:36 mark. A little more than a minute later, Maya Fuller dribbled through the right side and found Pridgen to the middle, scoring at the 33:57 mark for the 2-0 victory. 

It was Pridgen's third goal against JWU this season, having scored the game-winner in the Pirates' 2-1 victory over JWU at home on Sep. 20, and fourth goal of the season. 

Southwestern dominated possession in the first half with an 11-5 advantage in shots, including six on goal, with a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks before the break. 

The Pirates added another goal less than five minutes into the second half, getting an unassisted header from Guajardo off a rebound for the 3-0 lead. Less than two minutes later, Karlee Holmes put in a header to the bottom left of the net off a corner kick from Juliana Chapa

Southwestern had seven corner kicks in the second half for a 10-2 advantage for the match. 

Johnson & Wales ended the shutout at the 81:17 mark when Brooke Ford found Kayta Arbut through the middle. Southwester goalkeeper Mary Cardone had four saves, giving up the one goal. 

With the win, the Pirates improve to 10-3 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, dropping JWU to 3-10 and 1-3. Southwestern will host Trinity University on Friday, Oct. 18 at 6:00 p.m.
