Austin College enters the tournament at the No. 4 seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 10-9, 6-6 in the SCAC. The ‘Roos earned the No. 4 seed in last year’s event, but fell to the University of Dallas in the quarterfinal match. The ‘Roos offense has scored 22 goals this season which ranks second among the SCAC, behind only top-seeded Trinity University. Tyler Marquez and Mandi Sherwood lead the offensive attack for the ‘Roos as they each put up four goals through the season. The two seniors also added two assists apiece. Eight other players marked at least one goal this season. Austin College has Franchesca Lozoya leads the ‘Roos in the net, playing 18 games and starting in 17. Lozoya recorded 1534:20 minutes in goal, putting up 93 saves and marking a save percentage of .809, both ranking second in the SCAC. In the Friday’s first quarterfinal match, the Austin College ‘Roos will take on the fifth-seeded Southwestern University Pirates. In their two meetings this season, each team picked up a win on the road. Southwestern earned a 2-1 win in a double-overtime battle. The ‘Roos picked up a 1-0 win in Georgetown as Mary Katherine Bond scored the lone goal of the match in the 48th minute. The winner between AC and SU will face Trinity in Saturday first semifinal match.

PLAYERS TO WATCH TYLER MARQUEZ Marquez, a senior midfielder, starte in all 19 games for the ‘Roos, leading the team with four goals and two assists for 10 total points. Marquez was able to put two penalty kicks in the net, and marked two game-winning goals.

Sherwood, a senior midfielder, started in all 19 games for the ‘Roos, matching teammate Tyler Marquez with 10 points on the season, scoring four goals and putting up two assists. Sherwood marked a .556 shot on goal percentage, taking just 27 shots on the season -- 15 on target. The senior also led the team with three game-winning goals.

FRANCHESCA LOZOYA Lozoya, a junior goalkeeper, played 1534:20 minutes in goal, starting in 17 matches. During this time, she marked 93 saves, which ranks second in the SCAC and put up a .809 save percentage. Lozoya also posted four shutout, while giving up just 22 goals through the season.

The University of Dallas Crusaders enter the 2014 SCAC Championship tournament as the No. 3 seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 9-8-1, 7-4-1 in the SCAC. The Crusaders entered the 2013 event in the No. 5 spot, making it to the semifinal match before falling to the No. 1 seeded Trinity University. The Dallas Crusaders have scored 22 goals on the season, which ranks second among all SCAC teams. Nicole Johnson led the team, scoring eight goals on the season. Freshmen Alice Nelson and Mackenzie Vasile have each added three goals to follow Johnson, while eight other Crusaders have marked at least one goal. Freshman Elena Naccari has spent 1116:00 minutes in goal for the Crusaders, starting in 13 games. During this time, Naccari has made 64 saves, allowing 21 goals and marking a .753 save percentage. Fellow freshman, Tori Fleharty, spent 505:56 minutes in the goal, marking 48 saves, and allowing 12 goals. The Crusaders will face the sixth-seeded Schreiner Mountaineers in Friday’s second quarterfinal. Dallas won both of the teams’ meetings by scores of 1-0 (Oct. 10) and 2-1 (Oct. 3). The winner of the match will move on to face the No. 2 seeded Texas Lutheran Bulldogs.

PLAYERS TO WATCH NICOLE JOHNSON Johnson, a senior forward, started 18 games this season, marking a team-leading 18 points with eight goals -- fourth in the SCAC-- and two assists. Johnson took three penalty kicks on the season, converting two into scores. She also marked two game-winning goals. Johnson now has 33 career goals and 20 career assists.

The Schreiner University Mountaineers enter the 2014 SCAC Championship tournament as the No. 6 seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 4-10-1, 2-9-1 in the SCAC. The Mountaineers did not make the 2013 tournament after finishing conference-play with a record of 2-10. Friday’s quarterfinal match will be the first postseason game ever for the Schreiner Mountaineers. The Mountaineers put up 13 goals on the season, led by Ruth Blackburn who accounted for five of them. Blackburnis one of just seven players who marked a goal. Beth Ann Davis, a freshman midfielders marked three goals on the season, which ranks second among the SU offense. Davis also added two assists, which ties with Blackburn to lead the team. Megan Morant played in 15 games, making 13 starts and spent 1400:29 minutes in the net for Schreiner, posting 59 saves and three shutouts on the season. In Friday’s second quarterfinal match, the Mountaineers will take on the University of Dallas Crusaders. In their two meetings this season, the UD has been able to earn wins, but only by a margin of one point in each match. In the first game, Dallas got out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute, but Heidi Workman spoiled the lead with a goal of her own in the sixth minute. A late Crusaders’ goal proved to be the dealbreaker, however. In the second meeting, the Schreiner defense held Dallas to just five total shots, but a golden goal in overtime earned UD the win.

PLAYERS TO WATCH RUTH BLACKBURN

Blackburn, a freshman forward, played in 15 games for the Mountaineers, starting in 11 of them. Blackburn marked five goals on the season, which ranks eighth among the SCAC. Blackburn had one game this season with multiple scores, helping Schreiner to a 2-2 draw with Centenary College.

ALEX GILL Gill, a freshman midfielder, has helped the Mountaineers in her first collegiate season, playing in 15 matches and starting in 13 games. Gill added 12 shots on the season, including a career high of three shots against both Centenary College and Austin College.

The Southwestern Pirates will enter the conference tournament in the No. 5 seed after finishing the regular season with a record of 5-12-2, 5-6-1 in the SCAC. The Pirates were seeded second heading into the 2013 tournament and ended their semifinal match against Texas Lutheran in a 0-0 double-overtime draw. The Pirates won a shootout 5-4 to move on to the championship match against top-seeded Trinity University, but fell 5-0. The Pirates marked 10 total goals this season Sarah Bevins, Ana Gutierrez and Mackenzie Millican each marked two scores this season to lead Southwestern. Four other players were able to score, marking one goal apiece. Bevins and Gutierrez each marked two assists, while senior Carol Bentley led the team with two. Junior Katherine Rodgers marked 77 assists on the season, which ranks third in the SCAC, putting up a .726 save percentage and posting three shutouts. In Friday’s quarterfinal match, the Southwestern Pirates will take on the Austin College ‘Roos. During their two meetings this season, each team has picked up a win on the road. At Austin College, the Pirates picked up their first win of the 2014 season under interim head coach Jamie Meshew. Bevins and Gutierrez each put up goals in the game, including a golden goal in the 108th minute for a 2-1 win. AC earned a win in Georgetown with a lone goal in the second half. The winner of the quarterfinal match will face the Trinity University Tigers Saturday.

PLAYERS TO WATCH SARAH BEVINS Bevins, a sophomore forward, started in thirteen games this season, scoring two goals, which ties for a team-high. Bevins also marked one assist, earning five points, leading the Pirates. In her career, she now has nine goals and six assists for 24 total points. Bevins also marked one game-winning goal this season.

ANA GUTIERREZ

Gutierrez, a freshman defender, helped the Pirates offense, tying with two teammates for a team-leading two goals this season, playing in all 19 games. Gutierrez added one assist in her first collegiate season for five total points. Gutierrez helped a Pirates defense that posted four shutouts on the season.

KATHERINE RODGERS Rodgers, a junior goalkeeper, started in 17 of the Pirates’ 19 games this season, recording four shutouts and marking 77 saves in 1616:35 minutes. Rodgers currently ranks third in the SCAC for total saves and fifth in both save percentage (.726) and goals against average (1.61).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs earned the No. 2 seed this season after finishing 9-8-1 overall, 8-4 in conference play. In the 2013 championships, the Bulldogs entered as the No. 3 seed, and moved onto the semifinals after defeating No. 6 Centenary College 1-0. Despite ending play with a 0-0 draw against Southwestern University in the semifinals, the Pirates earned a 5-4 advantage in a shootout to move on to the championship match. Goalkeeper Erin Rose spent 1149:24 minutes in the net, allowing just 14 total goals, while marking 62 saves for a .816 save percentage. Senior Devin Crump also played eight games for the Bulldogs, marking 344:08 minutes in the goal, allowing 9 goals, while marking 30 saves. Because they earned the second seed, the Bulldogs will receive a first-round bye and will play in Saturday’s second semifinal match against either the No. 3 seeded University of Dallas or the No. 6 seeded Schreiner University. On the season, the Bulldogs earned wins in both meetings with the Schreiner Mountaineers (2-0, 1-0), but split their matches with the Dallas Crusaders (L, 2-1; W, 3-0).

TARA ARMSTRONG

Armstrong, a sophomore defender, started in all 18 games for the Bulldogs, helping to lead the team to second place in the SCAC. Armstrong and the TLU defense marked seven shutouts this season, all of which came in conference play. Offensively, Armstrong also added one goal and two assists.

ERIN ROSE

Rose, a sophomore goalkeeper, started in nine games for the Bulldogs, marking 1149:24 minutes in goal. During this time, Rose put up 62 saves, allowing just 14 goals (1.10 GAA) for a save percentage of .816.

The Trinity University Tigers earned a perfect 12-0 record in the SCAC, extending their current conference unbeaten streak to 60 games. The Tigers earned a record of 18-0-1 throughout the season. In the 2013 tournament, the Tigers earned the top seed and defeated Southwestern University 5-0. Trinity made it all the way to the NCAA Championship match, but fell 2-0 to William Smith. The prolific Trinity offense has marked 97 goals this season, averaging 5.11 per game, which ranks fourth in the nation. All-American Emily Jorgens leads the Tigers with 18 goals, marking a nation-leading 24 assists this season. Fellow senior Kelsey Falcone has put up 15 goals of her own and ranks seventh in the Division III with 14 assists. 24 members of the Trinity team have marked at least one goal this season, with 17 marking multiple. Maggie Olvera ranks third among the Tigers as well as the SCAC with nine goals and 11 assists for 29 total points. Senior goalkeeper Devan Osegueda started 11 games in the net, allowing just two goals in 785:55 minutes of play, a 0.23 goals against average. In that same time, the Tigers’ defense has allowed only eight shots on target. Throughout the entire season, Trinity has only given up 23 total shotson-goal by their opponents. The defense ranks eighth in the nation, allowing just .312 goals per game. The Tigers will earn a first-round bye in the tournament, but will face the winner of Friday’s first quarterfinal match between Austin College and Southwestern University.

PLAYERS TO WATCH EMILY JORGENS

Jorgens, a senior midfielder, started in all 19 games and finished the regular season with conference-leading marks of 18 goals and 24 assists, earning 60 points. In her career, Jorgens has earned the SCAC record for total assists and assists/game, and has moved to second all time in total career points (201). Jorgens has also marked seven game-winning goals which leads the SCAC and ranks fourth in the nation.

KELSEY FALCONE

Falcone, a senior midfielder, played and started in 18 games this season, marking 15 goals and 14 assists for 44 total points, all of which ranks second in the SCAC. Falcone’s assists total ranks eighth in the nation, and her point total ranks 26th. In her career, she has marked 49 goals, 42 assists and 140 total points.

KIMBERLY POLASEK

Polasek, a junior midfielder, played in all 19 games for the Tigers this season, starting in 16 matches. Polasek marked two goals and six assists this season for 10 total points.
