Nebraska Wesleyan University lived up to its No. 1 ranking and pressed its way to a 103-63 victory over Colorado College in a non-conference men's basketball game on Saturday afternoon at Snyder Arena.
The young Tigers held on as long as they could and were within 19-10 after freshman guard
Aaron Acosta hit his second three-pointer 5:25 into the game.
That's when NWU dialed up the pressure and used its press to ignite an 11-0 run and extend its lead to 30-10.
CC maintained that deficit for the next eight minutes, but after
Eric Jonas connected from behind the arc to make the score 51-29 with 3:45 remaining before halftime, the PrairieWolves closed out the half with a 14-5 surge.
Junior forward
CooXooEii Black hit eight of 12 shots from the floor and led the Tigers with 17 points.
Junior guard
Eric Jonas added 14 points for Colorado College, which slipped to 4-5.
Senior guard
Edmund Pendleton scored nine points and matched his season best with seven assists for CC, while
Scott Cunningham finished with eight points, six steals and four assists.
Nate Schimonitz and led Nebraska Wesleyan with 19 points and seven assists.
Cooper Cook went 6-for-10 from behind the arc and finished with 18 points for the PrairieWolves, who improved to 9-0.
NWU shot a fraction over 64 percent from the floor during the first half and finished the game at 53.4 percent.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they visit Grinnell College at noon CT.
