Men's Tennis Defeats Wheaton (IL) 7-2 to Close Spring Break Trip

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The Kangaroo Men's Tennis Team closed out their Florida Spring Break Trip with a victory, defeating the 2018 CCIW Runner-up Wheaton College Thunder 7-2.

A clean sweep of the doubles competition helped give the Kangaroos a cushion going into singles competition, as Kenneth Hardy/Siddharth Kortikere, the ITA's 6th Ranked Doubles Team in the West Region, claimed their first victory since the Semi-Finals of the ITA Fall Championship Tournament.  They defeated Wheaton's Bristol & Cheng 8-4 in decisive fashion.

Brett O'Brien and Josh Granberry registered their first doubles victory of the trip, claiming an 8-3 victory at Line 2, and Calum Robe/Andres Padilla won their second match in Florida, 8-6 at Line 3.

But it was Kortikere who stole the show in singles competition, playing a marathon 3-set match in blistering heat that resulted in 3 straight tiebreakers.  Kortikere dropped the first set after leading for much of it, 6-7 (6-8), claimed the second 7-6 (7-4), and won a closely contested super-tiebreaker for the match 10-8.

The Kangaroos also got wins from Brett O'Brien, Andres Padilla, and Preston Spivey at Lines 2, 3, and 5 respectively.

AC returns to the courts in Denison, TX on Saturday, March 16th to face the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor at 12:00PM.  The match will be played at the Smith Tennis Center in Denison, TX.
