CC Blanks Dallas In SCAC Opener

Box Score Caden MacKenzie scored his first goal in nearly two years to help Colorado College kick off its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference schedule with a 2-0 victory over the University of Dallas on Friday afternoon at Stewart Field.

MacKenzie, who missed the entire 2015 season due to an injury suffered during the last of 10 matches on the team's international tour, collected a pass from junior midfielder Joel Frykholm on the left side of the box and calmly slipped the ball into the lower right corner.

"I got a great ball from Joel, was able to touch it around the last defender and slid it into the corner at the far post," MacKenzie said.

"I've been waiting for that goal for more than a year and it was great to get it at home," MacKenzie said. "I have a great line behind me and they kept feeding me great balls. Hopefully more goals will come in the future."

The last time the senior forward found the net was Oct. 3, 2014, during a 3-0 victory at Southwestern University.

Junior midfielder Tim Huettel added an insurance goal in the 37th minute when his direct kick from 20 yards out on the left side made it through the congestion in front of the net and eluded UD goalkeeper Tino Gamueda.

At the other end of the pitch, the game was not nearly as exciting for CC keeper Theo Hooker, who stopped four shots en route to his third clean sheet of the season and the 19th of his career.

"That's the way it should be," Hooker said. "I'm there if I'm needed, but other than that I shouldn't touch the ball. I stay in the game by talking and giving information to our back line."

The Tiger defense now has played 305:09 without allowing a goal this year.

"The key to our success has been a lot of it is communication," Hooker said. "We have three returning starters and Alexander Makic has played really well after watching last year."

Colorado College finished with a 10-6 edge in total shots and a decisive 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.

"The defense has played great," MacKenzie said. "We just have to reward them with some goals because they've give 100 percent for 90 or more minutes every game. It was good to be successful at the other end of the field."

CC plays host to Pacific Lutheran University on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
