ABILENE, Texas – The McMurry University swim teams swept visiting Simpson College Thursday night at the Phillips Family Center, with the women winning 100-57 and the men 96-27.
Freshman Molly Herrera picked up the first win of the night form McM, taking the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:14.74. That time bested the field by 10 seconds. It was the first of two wins on the night for Herrera, as she claimed the top spot in the 500-yard freestyle, as well, in 6:07.10.
Sophomores Cassie Borgfield and Abigail Swaim won the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly events, respectively. Borgfield finished the medley in 2:58.40 and Swaim the fly in 1:11.87.
In the 100-yard freestyle, senior Jessica Gryder and Borgfield took the top two spots. Gryder won in 1:03.61 while Borgfield was second in 1:12.22.
To cap the night, freshman Madelaine Smith won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.76.
For the McM men, freshman Terrin Boehmer just missed out on a personal best time in the 50-yard freestyle, claiming the win in 22.89 seconds. Boehmer was just as close in the 100-yard backstroke, winning in 58.69 seconds.
Freshman Brayden Reeves stood atop the podium in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in 1:06.13.
Sophomore Alec Satre was also within a tenth of a second of a season best in the 100-yard freestyle, but nonetheless took the top spot in 51.92 seconds. Satre was able to swim his fastest time of the year in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing second in 1:08.24.
Rounding out the top finishes for the men was senior Dany Baki, who had top finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. He swam the freestyle in 5:27.71 and the medley in 2:18.28.
It was the last home meet for Gryder and Baki, who were honored before the meet.
It's a quick turnaround for McMurry, as the War Hawks are back in the pool Saturday for the Austin College Invitational. Events are scheduled to start at 1 p.m.
