Crusaders Drop Hard -Tested Battle versus Colorado College on Sunday
IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas men's soccer team fell to Colorado College 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. CC grabbed a 2-0 lead after Will Mallory scored at the 24:56 mark after his teammate found him at the center of the box. Moments later a penalty kick was awarded to the Tigers after a handball in the box, which they converted. Dallas got a late goal in the half from Carlos Trevino (Southlake, Texas) to pull Dallas closer. The first half score held up in the end, but UD had several opportunities late that just could not quite find the net.
The Tigers broke the scoreless tie in the 25th minute when Mallory found the back of the net after a pass from Kiran Singh set him up. Six minutes later a handball in the Dallas box led to a penalty kick opportunity for Colorado College (10-5, 5-1 SCAC). Griffin Meyer converted it to put the Tigers up 2-0. Trevino was able to find space in the box and score late in the half to pull Dallas (4-7-1, 2-2-1 SCAC) within one heading into halftime.
Dallas had two early shots that were both saved by the Tigers keeper. The Colorado offensive attack they came into play with several shots attempted. Dallas had several opportunities late, but were unable to find the equalizer.
Mallory led the Tigers with five shots, placing three on goal including one goal. Hayden Cogswell followed that up with four shots attempted and three placed on frame. Keleher Felton faced 10 shots allowing just one goal.
Chima Ogueri (Garland, Texas) struck six shots and put five of them on goal, while Tomas DePetris (Houston, Texas) had four shots on frame to keep the CC keeper busy. Caleb Strange (Argyle, Texas) had a busy day at the keeper position making 11 saves for Dallas.
CC outshot Dallas 18-14. Both teams took two corner kicks each.
