Softball Drops Two to No. 8 TLU

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team dropped a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference games to No. 8-ranked Texas Lutheran on Friday night, falling 14-0 in game one and 11-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 0-25 overall and 0-14 in conference play. 

Texas Lutheran jumped out to a big early lead in game one and never looked back, plating eight runs in the top of the first. After a scoreless second inning, the Bulldogs pushed two more runs across in the third, and added four in the fourth to make it 14-0. Texas Lutheran racked up 17 hits in the game, with both Kelly Jurden and Casey Martin going 3-for-3.

Austin College had four players get one hit apiece, with Jaide Vidal and Ashley Mayorga each going 1-for-2 in the game. Jordan Proctor took the loss, surrendering 14 runs – nine earned – on 13 hits in 3.0 innings of work. 

In game two, the Bulldogs took advantage of an early error to help them get two runs in the first to make it 2-0. TLU would get two more runs in the second, and three more runs would come across in the third as the Bulldogs started to put the game away. Texas Lutheran added three more runs in the fourth to make it 10-0, and an RBI double in the fifth made it an 11-0 final. 

Mayorga absorbed the loss for Austin College, giving up seven runs – six earned – on five hits with six walks and a strikeout in 3.0 innings of action. Mayorga also went 1-for-2 at the plate, collecting the lone hit of the game for the 'Roos. 

Austin College and the Bulldogs will wrap up the weekend series with another doubleheader slated for noon on Saturday at Old Settlers Park.
