'Roos Drop Two to Schreiner

SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team dropped both halves of its doubleheader against visiting Schreiner University on Saturday, falling 15-9 in game one and 12-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 3-14 overall and 0-3 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

In game one, the 'Roos erupted for nine runs in the first inning, with all nine coming with two outs. Nikole High got the scoring started with an RBI single, followed by run-scoring base hits by Emma Martinez, Mari Prazak, Alice Maisonet, Jaide Vidal, and Caitlin Nagy. Ashley Mayorga belted a 2-run double to wrap up the scoring and make it 9-0 heading into the second. The Mountaineers would get four back in the second and tack on another run in the third to make it 9-5, and Schreiner would plate four more in the fourth to square things up. The Mountaineers blasted three home runs in the fifth as part of another four-run inning and make it 13-9, and two more runs would come across in the seventh to make it a 15-9 final.

Austin College was limited to one hit after its big first inning, and Reina Serrano took the loss in the circle after surrendering four runs on four hits in 0.1 innings of relief work. Maisonet went 2-for-3 to lead the 'Roos at the plate.

In game two, Schreiner got a 1-0 lead after the first and then put up a nine-run inning of their own in the second to make it 10-0 and never looked back, as Bri Wodtke threw a perfect game for the Mountaineers to close out the weekend series. The Mountaineers added one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings and the 'Roos were unable to get anything going offensively in the game.

Aubri Dayle Smith absorbed the loss, giving up four runs - three earned - on five hits in 1.0 inning of work. Wodtke struck out eight batters in a complete game effort for Schreiner.
