'Roo Men Fall to Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College men's basketball team picked up its first loss of the season on Saturday afternoon, falling 89-79 at Hendrix to bring the team's record to 3-1 on the year.

Austin College shot 52.8% from the field, 60% from long distance, and made 14-of-17 free throws but it still wasn't enough to keep up with Hendrix as the Warriors shot a sizzling 67.4% from the field in the game, including 10-of-18 from three point range. The 'Roos jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the game and stayed on top until four and a half minutes into the game, when Hendrix squared things up at 12 apiece. The Warriors took their first lead shortly after, but Austin College raced back out to a 30-21 cushion with 6:37 left before halftime. The 'Roos went on top 34-27 two minutes later, but Hendrix would close the half with a 14-5 run and lead 41-39 at the break.

The Warriors knocked down 7-of-12 three pointers after halftime, with Sean Coman going 4-of-4 as they extended their lead late in the game. The 'Roos had things tied up at 72 each with just over five minutes to play, but a 17-7 run to close things out pushed the deficit to double figures.

Kam Hogan led Austin College with 17 points, hitting 7-of-13 attempts from the field, and Luke Brumbaugh, Roman Strickland, and Michael Holland each chipped in 11. Holland had a team-high seven rebounds. Hendrix was paced by Seth Stanley, who scored 31 points, while Coman finished with 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including making all five of his three point attempts.

Austin College is on the road again on Tuesday when they travel back to Arkansas to take on the University of the Ozarks at 3:00 p.m. in Clarksdale.
