The Colorado College men's track and field team opened its 2017 outdoor season Saturday at the Willamette Opener Meet in Salem, Ore.
"It was an incredible day for us," head coach
Ted Castaneda said. "We had some extraordinary performances for the first outdoor meet of the season."
Sophomores
Quin Gattey and
Henry Baldwin led the Tigers on Saturday. Gattey collected a second-place finish in the 400-meter race with a time of 51.92 seconds, while Baldwin finished third in the high jump with a leap of 6'2.75".
Freshman Toy Calderon finished sixth overall and second among collegiate runners in the 5K with a time of 15:38.44, while sophomore
David Eik with 10
th (season-best 15:51.50) and freshman
Jack Williams 18
th (16:09.29).
A pair of Tigers finished in the top 10 in the 100-meter event, with sophomore
Noah Shuster placing sixth with a time of 11.39 seconds and junior
Justin Nguyen finishing 10
th in 11.75 seconds.
Freshman
Ethan Brand-LaBarge finished 12
th in the 800-meter race, while senior
Conor Terhune led three Tigers with an 18
th-place finish in the 1,500-meters, followed by junior
Ethan Holland in 21
st and freshman
Max Blackburn in 26
th.
The Tigers are idle until Saturday, March 25, when they host the 2017 Colorado College Invitational at Frank Flood Track.
