Colorado College nearly overcame a 20-point second-half deficit, but Rhodes College made just enough of its 32 free throws to hang on for a 75-72 victory on Friday night.
Jaime Maxey gave the Lynx a 59-39 lead when she drained a shot from behind the arc with 12:38 remaining in the game, but the Tigers outscored RC 37-16 the rest of the way and pulled to within a point at 73-72 when Jordy Stephenson scored two of her 12 points with five seconds to play.
Lakeya McGill sank a pair free throws a second later to give the Lynx a three-point cushion, and Stephenson's desperation shot was off the mark as time expired.
Becky Luetjen poured in 14 of her 22 points in the second half to ignite the rally. It marked the seventh time this season she has scored 20 or more points in a contest.
The Tigers led by four points when Alyssa Aldaz knocked down a jumper with 9:15 remaining in the first half and held a 25-22 advantage when she scored again 32 seconds later, but the Lynx went on an 8-0 run to take a 30-25 lead and never trailed again.
Colorado College pulled to within 33-30 on a Gradoz free throw with 1:25 to go, only to see RC net the final five points of the half to build a 38-30 lead after 20 minutes.
McGill posted a game-high 27 points to pace Rhodes, while Sharwil Bell scored 21 to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds. The Lynx finished with a 45-33 advantage on the glass.
