Women's Soccer Falls to JWU

SHERMAN, Texas - Johnson & Wales scored three second half goals and the Austin College women's soccer team was unable to come from behind, falling 4-2 to the Wildcats on Sunday afternoon. The 'Roos are now 3-11-1 overall and 0-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The Wildcats came out as the aggressors early, firing a shot off the crossbar less than two minutes in, and then finding the net less than a minute later when Natasha Martin put one just under the crossbar from the top of the box to make it 1-0 in the third minute of action. However, that's how things would stay heading into halftime, as the Austin College defense clamped down and kept it a one goal game at the break.

After JWU missed a penalty kick early in the second half, the Wildcats would find the net in the 51st minute to make it a 2-0 game. Austin College cut the margin in half just over three minutes later, as Sarah Carmichael capitalized on a misplayed ball by the JWU keeper and punched one home from point blank range. Six minutes later, however, the Wildcats got on the board again to make it 3-1, and the margin would grow to 4-1 in the 73rd minute. The 'Roos got one more tally in the 78th minute as Chloe Towler found the net on a feed from Madeline Klem, but that's as close as things would get the rest of the way.

Meredith Harris made 10 saves for Austin College as the Wildcats held a 28-9 advantage in shot attempts in the game. The 'Roos are back in action on Friday when they host St. Thomas at 6:00 p.m. to kick off Homecoming Weekend.
