Bulldogs roll to home win over JWU-Denver, clinch third seed in SCAC tournament

SEGUIN, Texas -- Sebastian Andrade scored 26, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists to lead the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to an 84-66 home win Friday night against Johnson & Wales - Denver.
 
The Bulldogs clinched the third seed for the upcoming Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament with the victory.
 
TLU improved to 13-11 overall and to 10-7 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs could end the regular season in a tie with Austin College for the second spot in the SCAC, but AC would have the tiebreaker because of its two wins against TLU. AC will be the No. 2 seed.
 
JWU-Denver dropped to 2-22 overall and to 1-16 in the SCAC.
 
St. Thomas (Texas) has clinched the SCAC regular-season championship, but the Celts are in transition to NCAA Division III and not yet eligible for post-season play in the SCAC and the NCAA. Centenary will enter the SCAC tournament as the top seed.
 
In TLU's win over JWU, the Bulldogs' Jorden Kite added 16 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Trystin Silas chipped in 15 points.
 
TLU shot 45.8 percent from the floor. JWU-Denver shot 48.1 percent from the field but took 18 less field goal attempts.
 
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Wildcats 44-29. Jamir Mason led TLU nine rebounds.
 
JWU-Denver received 16 points and five rebounds from Gavin Spinks, and 15 points and four rebounds from Shyreef Robins.
 
The Bulldogs close out the regular-season with a 4 p.m. home game on Saturday against Colorado College.
