Cold Shooting Dooms 'Roos at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College men's basketball team knocked down just 32% of its shots while Centenary College hit 50%, as the Gents handed the 'Roos a 77-56 defeat on Friday evening. The 'Roos are now 6-10 overall and 2-5 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos came out strong and took a 13-7 lead six and a half minutes in, but Centenary surged ahead 22-20 on a three by Cedric Harris with 6:26 left before the break. With the score 26-23 following a layup by Devin Roland, Centenary used an 8-0 run to push the margin into double digits and would go into halftime leading 38-27. Austin College was unable to get the deficit back into single digits in the second half, with the Gents quickly extending their cushion to 52-30 just over six minutes into the period.

Centenary would lead by as many as 27 points, thanks in part to knocking down 10 three pointers as a team and out-scoring the 'Roos 36-24 in the paint. The Gents also scored 31 points off of turnovers and held a 41-36 rebounding edge. Kam Hogan led the 'Roos with 13 points, while Michael Holland notched a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while adding six assists. Jaylyn Cleamons scored a career-high eight points in the first start of his career.

Austin College returns to Sherman on Tuesday, where they'll once again take on Centenary with tipoff set for 8:00 p.m.
