GEORGETOWN, Texas – The 15th-ranked Tiger women's golf team finished second at the West Region Invitational on Monday, which was hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club.
The 36-hole tournament was played in its entirety today and featured just three teams. The winning team was 14th-ranked University of Texas-Dallas, finishing six strokes in front of the Tigers. Tournament host Southwestern was just five shots back of Trinity after the first round, but dropped out of contention as both UTD and Trinity shot a tournament-best 297 to close out the day.
Jessica Mason (Westminster, Colo. / Holy Family) won the individual title as well after shooting an even-par 144 on the par-72 course. Mason carded a tournament-best 70 in the second round to earn the one-shot victory. She had four birdies in each round and led the field with her total of eight for the day.
Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) was third after shooting a two-over 146 for the tournament, including an even-par 72 in the second round. Hsiu was also tied for second among all players with seven total birdies – four of which came in her final round of play.
Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls) had the biggest improvement from round one, shooting a one-over score of 73 on the final 18 holes to finish in a tie for sixth with a score of 153.
Lauren Huddleston (Anthem, Ariz. / Boulder Creek) was 11th with a total of 163 (79-84), while
Carmen Kennett (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) was 12th after shooting back-to-back 82s for a total of 164. Playing as an individual,
Ashleigh Nader (Ft. Worth, Texas / Paschal) shot a 172 for the day to finish in 18th place.
