Volleyball Goes Undefeated at First Responders Tournament

After a 2-0 start on Day one, the University of St. Thomas Volleyball team finished 4-0 at their First Responders Tournament. The Celts swept both of their matches on the day against Whitman and St. Joseph's.

Whitman

The Celts opened their day strong against the Blues by going on a 10-3 run in the opening set. The Blues' defense struggled as St Thomas won by a commanding score of 25-13. Both teams went point for point in set two as 18 ties and 7 lead changes dictated the outcome. When both teams were locked at 26 points apiece, Ashlynne Fitzgerald had a timely kill to give the Celts the 27-26 lead before a Whitman attack error gave St. Thomas the set victory. Finally, the third set saw Whitman playing behind from the first serve as St Thomas earned their fourth sweep of the season 25-17.

St. Joseph's

This game was all Celts as they went on a 14-0 run to open set one. St Joseph's would fail to generate any offense as St Thomas won the opener 25-5. In set two, St Joseph's started hot and went up 3-0, before a kill from Caelie Jebson would put the Celts on the board. This led to an 8-2 run to give St Thomas the advantage until St Joseph's would tie the score at 8-8. A Mia Medina kill would break the tie and then the Celts never looked back and won 25-18 for another sweep.

Paige Havel would lead the Celts with 17 total kills on the day. Kendall Howard would add 22 assists, continuing her strong start to her season. Ally Peters would impress with 31 total digs in two games. Finally, the Celts would have 15 service aces across both games as a team.
