Men's Tennis opens spring season with 6-3 victory over Louisiana College

MARSHALL, Texas -- Texas Lutheran Women and Men's Tennis each captured team victories Friday over Louisiana College. The TLU Women recorded a 9-0 win, and the TLU Men grabbed a 6-3 victory.
 
TLU improved to 1-0 overall for the women and 1-0 for the men. Each LC squad dropped to 0-1.
 
The team wins for the Bulldogs were the first two career collegiate victories for new TLU Head Coach John Strahl, who is in his first season with the Bulldogs after spending the previous 31 seasons as the head coach at San Antonio's Churchill High School.
 
In the women's match, the Bulldogs' six singles players all rolled to convincing wins. Samantha Stafford won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Mary Eby was a 6-1, 6-0 winner at No. 2 singles.
 
At No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, Madison Starr won 6-0, 6-0, and Kaitlyn Enloe posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
 
At No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, Jade Sosa did not drop a game, and Liz Perkins won 1-0 after her opponent retired after one game.
 
TLU's three women's doubles teams dropped a combined four games in the three doubles matches.
 
On the men's side, TLU cruised to singles wins at No. 3 with Joshua Bowman, No. 4 with Dristan Weaver, No. 5 with Dylan Lane, and No. 6 with Quinton Johnson. That quartet lost a combined 10 games in four matches. Bowman won 6-0, 6-0. 
 
Dylan Lane and Bowman collected an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles, and Weaver and Bulla won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles.
 
The Bulldogs continue their East Texas swing Saturday with matches at East Texas Baptist (9 a.m.) and LeTourneau (2 p.m.).
