Pirates Rally Past 'Roo Men

GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Austin College men's basketball team held a 15-point lead late, but Southwestern rallied to hand the 'Roos an 80-77 loss on Saturday night. The 'Roos finish the season with an overall record of 8-17 and 4-12 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Devin Roland scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the 'Roos, who led 39-35 at halftime and found themselves ahead 77-62 with 4:52 left to play. However, the Pirates would close the game on an 18-0 run, tying the game with 48 seconds left and getting a pair of free throws to go on top 79-77 with just three seconds left. The 'Roos shot 45.3% from the field in the game, but were just 2-of-9 from long range after halftime. 

Michael Holland scored 14 points in the loss, while Justice Mercadel had 12 and Kam Hogan chipped in 11, including nine in the second half as Austin College raced out to a 15-point lead. Southwestern got 17 points from Kye Howard, while Brandon Alexander scored 16. The Pirates also held a 39-33 advantage on the glass, and out-scored the 'Roos 25-10 from the free throw line.
