BACK TO BACK! Men's Soccer Wins SCAC Championship

This Sunday afternoon men's soccer was dominant in the SCAC Championship defeating the Trinity Tigers 3-1. With this victory, St. Thomas secures an automatic qualifier to the NCAA national tournament for the first time in school history. This is also men's soccer's second consecutive SCAC title.

The first thirty minutes of the match featured a stalemate between the two teams. With neither team willing to give an inch, both teams played sound defense to keep the score 0-0. Trinity was the first to strike in the SCAC final with a goal at the thirty-minute mark. With the score 1-0 St. Thomas tightened their defense as both teams showed passionate soccer and were charged with a yellow card each immediately following the goal. Once the dust settled, Taty Aleman found Daniel Castro for the game-tying goal at minute thirty eight to tie the score 1-1 heading into the half. Out of halftime, the Celts would not let the Tigers get back into the match by tacking on another goal after Ayomide Salako found the back of the net. With the score 2-1, it wasnt enough for St. Thomas as Daniel Castro scored his second of the match to make the score 3-1. Moments later, both teams were charged with a red card to give the one-man advantage each as the clock winded down, and after 3 straight goals, St. Thomas became the 2022 SCAC Men's Soccer Champion.

Up next, the season isnt done for Men's Soccer, we will begin our NCAA tournament run, follow Men's Soccer and UST Athletics for all further information.
