Men's Basketball Sails Past Southwestern 76-58

In a competitive men's basketball showdown on January 5, 2024, St. Thomas (Tex.) secured a 76-58 victory over Southwestern (Tex.). The game unfolded with both teams showcasing their skills and determination, but it was St. Thomas that ultimately emerged victorious.

The first half was closely contested, with St. Thomas holding a narrow 37-36 lead at halftime. The second half saw a significant surge from St. Thomas, outscoring Southwestern 39-22 and solidifying their dominance in the later stages of the game.

Calvin Williams IV played a pivotal role for St. Thomas, contributing 20 points, including eight crucial free throws. Nick Anderson also made significant contributions with 19 points, showcasing his scoring prowess from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line.

For Southwestern, Luke Hatcher led the scoring efforts with 15 points and a solid performance on both ends of the court. Despite the team's efforts, they faced challenges containing St. Thomas' offensive firepower.

St. Thomas demonstrated efficiency in their shooting, with a 45.3% field goal percentage and a notable 78.6% accuracy from the free-throw line. Their strong defensive efforts, including 23 total rebounds and three blocks, contributed to their overall success.

Southwestern fought hard, but St. Thomas' well-rounded performance and strong second-half showing secured the 76-58 victory. Both teams will use this game as a learning experience as they continue their respective seasons in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
