
Baseball Sweeps Austin College In DH On Saturday
The Centenary baseball team swept a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader from the Austin College 'Roos on Saturday, winning 3-2 in game one and 10-4 in game two at Shehee Stadium.

The Diamond Gents (8-9, 3-1 SCAC) continued their mastery over Austin College (7-11, 1-3 SCAC) by beating the 'Roos for the 11th time in a row and are now 35-2 all-time against them.

Sophomore LHP Cody Myers (Friendswood, Texas) turned in another impressive performance on the mound as he picked up the win to move to 5-1 overall, tossing 7.1 strong innings and allowing just two runs (one earned run) and seven hits. He walked one, struck out three, and allowed a solo home run. Myers faced 30 batters and threw 105 pitches (70 strikes).
Sophomore RHP Jacob Broussard (Houston, Texas) pitched the final 1.2 innings and held the 'Roos scoreless on one hit as he recorded his second save of the season. Broussard faced six batters and threw 20 pitches (13 strikes).
Centenary finished with eight hits, walked once, struck out five times, left four on base, and made two errors. Austin College also finished with eight hits and walked once, struck out three times, left seven on base, and played error-free ball.
Trystan Mallory (1-3) started and suffered the loss for the 'Roos as he allowed three runs, all earned, on eight hits with a BB and four K's. He faced 24 batters, hitting one, and threw 85 pitches – 56 strikes. Zack Czarnecky relieved Mallory and pitched the final two innings and did not allow a run or a hit with one K. He hit one batter of the seven he faced and threw 23 pitches (14 strikes).
The Diamond Gents opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as freshman 1B Alex Miller (Cypress, Texas) drove sophomore LF Carson Livesay (Lafayette, La.) in with an RBI single for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore 3B Clay Menard (Berwick, La.) reached on a fielder's choice to score senior RF Austyn Benoit (Welsh, La.) in the fourth for a 2-0 lead.
Myers retired the first six batters before allowing a pair of hits in the third and fourth innings, but escaped trouble both times as the 'Roos left four on base through for innings. Austin College got one hit in the fifth and a leadoff single in the sixth, but Myers induced an inning-ending double play. Austin College CF Brandon Hill got the 'Roos on the board with a leadoff homer in the top of the seventh but Myers retired the next three in order to maintain the lead.
Freshman DH Walker Wicklund (Shreveport, La.) delivered a two-out pinch-hit sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to score senior SS Jobee Boone (Opelousas, La.) and make it a 3-1 game. The insurance run came in handy as Myers issued a leadoff walk to DH Tino Ramirez to start the eighth and he went to second on a passed ball and then advanced to third on a Tripp Thoms groundout. RF RayShawn Riley reached on an error by Livesay as Ramirez scored to make it 3-2. Broussard then came in the game for Myers and got 1B Jake Trapani to fly out. Riley stole second to move the potential tying run into scoring position, but 3B Asher Thompson flew out to end the inning.
Hill singled to lead off the top of the ninth and SS Mason Woodhouse flew out to right as Hill moved to second and then raced to third on an error by Benoit. Scott Hosmer then grounded out to Broussard for the second out and C Greg Smith flew out to right to end the game.
Hill and Riley each had two hits to lead the Austin College offense and Hill had an RBI and a run scored and Ramirez was 1-3 with a run scored and a walk. Smith, Thompson and Woodhouse each finished 1-4. Smith and Woodhouse each had a double and Riley had a stolen base.
Boone and senior C Jake Gonce (Katy, Texas) each had two hits for the Diamond Gents and Livesay was 1-3 with a walk and a run scored. Miller finished 1-4 with an RBI, Benoit was 1-4 with a run, Menard was 0-2 but had an RBI, sophomore CF Collin Pitts (Lufkin, Texas) was 1-3 and Wicklund had the big pinch-hit single. Centenary finished with four extra-base hits as Pitts tripled and Benoit, Gonce, and Livesay all doubled. The Diamond Gents stole four bases but were also caught stealing four times.

The 'Roos took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first as Trapani had a two-run single off of Centenary starting pitcher - junior LHP Tyler Herrera (Spring, Texas). Three scoreless innings followed before Austin College added a third run on a failed pickoff to score Trapani with Hill at the plate to make it 3-0.
Centenary got on the board in the fifth, scoring a pair of runs to cut its deficit to 3-2. Gonce reached on an error to score Wicklund and Pitts scored on an error. The Diamond Gents took the lead in the sixth with five runs and made it a 7-3 game. Pitts had an RBI groundout, Gonce had an RBI single, Menard had a two-run single, and Livesay scored on a balk by reliever Hunter Manning.
The 'Roos scored their fourth run in the eighth inning as Riley's RBI single scored Woodhouse but Centenary added three runs in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10-4. Livesay had an RBI double to score Gonce, Menard had an RBI single, and Miller drove Livesay home on a sacrifice fly.
Jonas Ceballos started for Austin College and received a no-decision. He went five innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits with two BB and no K's. He faced 21 batters and threw 67 pitches – 45 for strikes. He was the first of five pitchers for Austin College as the second, Tyler Ramage (1-1), took the loss as he allowed four runs, three earned, and four hits in 0.2 innings of work. Ramage faced six batters and threw 18 pitches (12 strikes).
The final three pitchers for the 'Roos – Corbin Dymek, Manning, and Cager Van Stavern, combined for 2.1 IP and allowed four runs (three earned) and four hits with no BB and one K. Manning faced nine batters and hit three of them, throwing 28 pitches with 19 for strikes.
Herrera received a no-decision as he went four innings and allowed three runs, two earned, and six hits with three BB and two K's. He faced 22 batters and threw 79 pitches – 44 strikes. Junior P Zachary Malone (Hallsville, Texas) relieved Herrera and picked up the win, the first of his career, as he went 3.2 innings and allowed just one earned run and six hits with one BB. He faced 18 batters, hit one, and threw 67 pitches – 43 for strikes. Sophomore RHP Aidan Reichek (Bellaire, Texas) pitched the final 1.1 innings and did not allow a run or a hit with one BB and one K. He faced six batters and threw 26 pitches (13 strikes).
The Diamond Gents finished with 12 hits and overcame four errors while drawing three walks, striking out once, and leaving eight on base. The 'Roos also banged out 12 hits, made two errors, walked five times, struck out three times, and left 15 on base.
Trapani led the 'Roos with three hits as he finished 3-4 with two RBI, a BB and a run scored and Riley, Ramirez, and Woodhouse combined to go 6-13 with an RBI, two BB and three runs. Hill was 1-4 with a BB, Thoms went 1-4, and Smith was 1-4 with a BB. Wicklund had a big game for the Diamond Gents as he was 3-5 with two runs scored, Menard went 2-5 with a career-high four RBI, and Livesay was 2-3 with an RBI, two runs scored, and two BB.
Miller was 0-3 with an RBI, Boone went 1-3 with a BB and a run scored, Pitts was 1-4 with an RBI and a run scored, and Gonce finished 1-3 with an RBI and two runs while freshman Miles Keith (Lindale, Texas) was 2-2 with a pair of runs scored.
