Tigers shoot down Birmingham-Southern

Colorado College made a season-high 13 three-point baskets and coasted to an 84-57 victory over Birmingham-Southern College on Friday night at Reid Gymnasium. 

Collier Clegg was 4-for-7 from behind the arc and led five Tigers in double figures with a game-high 15 points.

Clegg buried a trio of three pointers in the first half as CC raced to a 42-23 lead after 20 minutes.

After the Panthers took an early 2-0 lead, the Tigers scored 21 of the next 25 points to build a 21-6 lead just under eight minutes into the game.

BSC trimmed its deficit to 23-16 with 7:01 remaining in the first half, but Hannah Hoopingarner drained both of her 3-point baskets to ignite a 16-1 run.

Hoopingarner finished with a season-high 12 points.

The Tigers took their largest lead at 69-37 when Alyssa Aldaz connected from long range with 8:36 to play. Aldaz finished with 11 points and three assists. 

Jenny Knapp scored a season-high 10 points and Jordy Stephenson recorded career highs with five assists and three blocked shots.

All but one player scored for CC and everyone had at least one rebound.

The Tigers shot season bests of .544 from the floor and .542 from three-point range.

At the other end, BSC shot .194 from the floor in the first half and finished the game at .250.

Melanie Short had 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds to pace the Panthers.

The Tigers improved to 9-5 overall and 3-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. BSC dropped to 7-7 overall and 2-4 in league play.

Colorado College plays host to Rhodes College on Sunday at 11 a.m.
