Scarbrock (4-4) now has three complete games this season and 23 in her career which ranks third in the division III era (2012-present) in program history. She allowed just six hits on Friday with no walks and three strikeouts. She faced 27 batters and threw 80 pitches with 59 for strikes.
Sophia Ytuarte (5-5) suffered the loss as she started in the circle and allowed six runs, all earned, on six hits in 5.1 innings of work with four BB, a hit batter, and one K. She faced 27 batters and threw 78 pitches. Cora Sepulvado relieved her and went 0.2 innings and allowed one hit and hit a batter.
The Ladies and Pirates were locked in a scoreless battle through five and a half innings before Centenary's offense finally broke through and exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth. Senior UT Viviana Rivero (Redondo Beach, Calif.) started the rally as she crushed a leadoff double over the head of CF Erica Otto. Freshman Libby Guidry (Iowa, La.) pinch ran for Rivero and then senior C/1B Abby Touchet (Shreveport, La.) walked and was pinch ran for by sophomore OF Caila Baldwin (Gretna, La.).
Junior 2B Catherine Stokes (Natchitoches, La.) then ripped a line drive off of Ytuarte that she could not handle as Stokes reached on an infield single to load the bases with no one out. Junior Laine Sullivan (Prairieville, La.) then drew a walk to force in a run and make it 1-0. Junior DP Morgan Dawson (Natchitoches, La.) then hit a ball in between third base and short and Stokes collided with 3B Julyssa Hernandez and Stokes was called out for interference. Dawson reached on the fielder's choice as Baldwin scored and Sullivan moved to second as it was 2-0 Ladies. Junior P/UT Abigail Hodgson (Florence, Texas) delivered an RBI single to center to score Sullivan as Dawson went to third. Senior IF Brooke Sandefur (Denham Springs, La.) came into run for Hodgson and promptly stole second base. Junior RF Emma Crow (Krotz Springs, La.) then smacked a two-run single to right to score Sandefur and Dawson for a 4-0 lead.
Sepulvado then replaced Ytuarte and retired sophomore CF Noelle Sandmann (Huntsville, Texas) on a groundout that moved Crow to third. Freshman SS Kaitlynn Alello (Denham Springs, La.) was hit by a pitch and Rivero followed with an RBI single to score Crow and make it 6-0 as the Ladies batted around. Scarbrock allowed a one-out single in the top of the seventh but then retired Macey Gilman on a foul out and Kaydence Garza on a lineout to right to end the game.
Scarbrock escaped trouble in the top of the sixth as Southwestern had runners at first and second with two outs and the she struck out Meghan McCarthy looking to end the inning and the Pirates stranded three runners in the first four innings as Scarbrock kept Southwestern off the scoreboard.
Rivero finished 2-4 with an RBI, Crow was 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored, and Stokes was 1-2 with a BB. Sullivan finished 0-1 with two BB, an RBI, and a run scored, Dawson was 1-2 with an RBI and a run, and Hodgson went 1-3 with an RBI. Tauryn Alexander and Ytuarte each collected two hits for the Pirates and Otto and Calle Collier each had one.
The Ladies finished with seven hits, four BB, just one K, a stolen base, left seven on base, and did not commit an error. The Pirates had six hits, did not draw a BB, struck out three times, left six on base, and also played error-free ball.
