Women's Basketball Loses On The Road To Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. —  A rough second quarter proved costly for the Southwestern University Pirates women's basketball team in a 61-57 loss to the Centenary College Ladies.

The Southwestern front court trio of Cecily Woolfolk, Noel Pratts, and Naomi Brown combined for 37 points but the Pirates struggled to find offense elsewhere, shooting just 22-for-58 from the field (37.9 percent), including 4-for-14 from the 3-point line.

Most of the damage came in a second quarter in which the Pirates scored only six points, taking a 26-24 lead into the break.

Centenary's Bre Frierson took over in the second half, scoring 16 of her game-high 26 points, finishing the game shooting 11-for-15 from the field and 4-for-6 from the free-throw line. Teammate Jazzmyn Jones scored 12 points as the only other Centenary player in double figures.

Pratts led the Pirates with 15 points and two steals. Woolfolk had 13 points and six rebounds while Brown added nine points and four rebounds off the bench.

With the loss, the Pirates drop to 3-10 on the season and 1-5 in conference play. Southwestern will travel to Houston to face St. Thomas on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2:00 p.m.
