Tigers Down St. Norbert College in Dual Meet

The Colorado College swimming and diving teams wrapped up the 2018 calendar with a pair of wins in a dual meet against St. Norbert College Monday night at Schlessman Natatorium. The CC women won, 171-58, while the men captured a 160-78 victory.

The meet marked the return of Franco Pacheco, the head coach at St. Norbert, who was an assistant coach at Colorado College from 2015-17.

Four women each won two individual events for the Tigers. Junior Jio Chang won the 500-yard freestyle and the 50 freestyle, while fellow junior Selma Jukic won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Chang and Jukic also swam on the winning 200 medley relay team along with sophomore Emileigh Rafidi and freshman Ana Mashek.

Freshman Key Macfarland won the 200 freestyle, with Rafidi placing second and freshman Kerren Matthews third, and the 100 butterfly, leading a 1st through 4th finish. Mashek placed second, while, freshman Anna Marcus was third and junior Hailey Schramm finished fourth.

Junior Riley Wadehra won both of the 1-meter diving events, including an NCAA regional qualifying score of 269. 40 in the 11-dive competition. Sophomores Jennifer Middleton and Lani Flagg finished second and third, respectively, in each event.

On the men's side, junior Eric Dallesasse and Ethan Schick and freshman Julian Frerichs were multiple-event winners. Dallesasse won the 100 butterfly and 50 freestyle, while Schick (100 breaststroke) and Frerichs (100 backstroke) each won an individual event and joined junior Ethan Hanson and sophomore Baker Casagrande on the 200 medley relay team that finished first.

Sophomore Casey Block won both diving events, while junior Michael Heinonen won the 1000 freestyle and placed second in the 100 breaststroke.

Freshmen Cole and Cade Thumann took home first place in the 200 IM and 200 freestyle, respectively, while sophomore Walker Martin won the 100 freestyle. Freshman Reese Gawronski posted three second-place results in the 100, 200 and 500 freestyle races.

St. Norbert is coached by former Colorado College assistant coach Franco Pacheco.

"We were able to do a mixture of each person's regular events and off events tonight to get some variety," head coach Anne Goodman James said. "It was fun to see some of the breakout swims in new events.  As a group we were much better into the turns tonight, which has been focus in training over the last two weeks."

The Tigers will open the New Year with training in Hawaii, then host the Colorado College Classic, Jan. 18-20.
