Krueger Powers Tigers Past TLU

Senior forward Daniel Krueger came off the bench to score three goals and power the Colorado College men's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Texas Lutheran University on Friday night at Washburn Field.

The Tigers improved to 5-1-0 overall and remain atop the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference table with a 4-0-0 mark.

Krueger's hat trick was the first for the program since Nov. 7, 2015, when Christian Wulff struck three times in a 6-0 victory over Schreiner University in a semifinal match of the SCAC Championship at Stewart Field.

The Tigers broke through in the 24th minute when Krueger jumped on the ricochet of Will Mallory's corner kick and put a low shot into the TLU net.

The Bulldogs leveled the score a little more than two minutes later when CC goalkeeper Keller Mochel came off his line to challenge for possession, but the ball bounced off Mochel and went to Nicolas Medina, who put the ball in the open net.

The goal snapped Colorado College's shutout streak at 385:55, but that proved to be the only ball that would elude the junior goalkeeper.

Krueger put CC back in front in the 41st minute when he got a boot on a cross from senior defender Alexander Makic and beat Texas Lutheran senior goalkeeper Brendan Soto with a shot inside the near post.

Krueger completed his track in the 58th minute when he roofed a shot to the left side of the net after taking a back-heal pass from sophomore forward Rory Buck.

The Bulldogs finished with a 15-14 edge in total shots and each side earned five corner kicks.

Mochel finished the game with a six saves.

Soto stopped three shots for the Bulldogs, who slipped to 2-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the SCAC.

Colorado College plays host to Southwestern University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
