HOUSTON – The University of St. Thomas soccer teams will play in Houston's newest professional sports stadium, as it was announced the Celts will partner with Major League Rugby's Houston Sabercats to play matches at the franchise's AVEVA Stadium.

The Celts moved their doubleheader against Johnson & Wales on Oct. 6 to AVEVA Stadium due to scheduling conflicts with Houston Sports Park. Located at 12131 Kirby Dr., it is approximately a quarter-mile from HSP.

"We are very excited about our new partnership with AVEVA Stadium and the SaberCats," UST Athletic Director Todd Smith said. "An opportunity to develop a relationship with Houston's newest professional sports team is not available to most NCAA Division III athletic programs. We are excited to build a new relationship with AVEVA."

Opened earlier in 2019, AVEVA Stadium was the first venue built specifically for a Major League Rugby franchise. The stadium seats approximately 3,200 people and offers first-class amenities to players and fans alike.

Houston Sports Park will continue to serve as UST's primary home field for the soccer programs.

"Our relationship with HSP has been the cornerstone on which we have built our soccer program, and it will always be the foundation for UST soccer," Smith said.
