Depleted Tigers Fall at UCCS

Box Score Junior forward John Hatch posted his first double-double with game highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds, but the Colorado College men's basketball team lost two more guards to injuries and dropped a 74-63 decision at CU-Colorado Springs on Monday night.

Despite playing without junior Eric Houska and sophomore Jake Miller, the Tigers clawed their way to within eight points with one minute to play. The Mountain Lions, however, closed out the game by making six of eight free throws during the final 53 seconds.

After falling behind 67-47 with 4:19 remaining, CC erupted for a 14-1 run to make things interesting.

Despite losing Houska 34 seconds into the game, Colorado College led by as many as six points early in the first half and was within three points when Miller went down with 14:04 to play.

Junior forward Chris Martin recorded his second double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Playing without three of its primary ball-handlers, the Tigers committed a season-high 22 turnovers, which led to 18 points for UCCS.

CC also had to deal with foul trouble, which forced head coach Andy Partee to go deep into his bench.

Sophomore Edmund Pendleton took advantage of the additional playing time and recorded career-highs of three points and six rebounds before fouling out with 22 seconds to play.

Colorado College shot a little better than 45 percent from the floor, compared to 36.7 percent for the Mountain Lions.

UCCS (1-4) finished with a 41-38 edge in total rebounds.

Padiet Wang led the hosts with 15 points, while Brandon Malone added 13.

The Mountain Lions did most of their damage at the charity stripe, where they outscored CC 24-9.

The Tigers (1-5) are idle until Dec. 6 when they play host to Johnson & Wales University at 7 p.m.
