Tigers win two more at SCAC crossovers

No. 14 Colorado College won both of its matches at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Central/West Crossover s on Sunday afternoon in Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium.

Colorado College won its first match of the day against the University of Dallas, 3-1 (25-22, 25-10, 18-25, 25-10).

Junior Kate Squires and senior Sarah Schmoker led the attack for the Tigers with nine kills each. Freshman Randi Braak added eight kills for the offense.

Senior Amy Schornack dished out a team-high 33 assists to run the offense. Schmoker served up a team-high three aces for CC.

Senior Hannah Varnell led the Tigers in the back row with 28 digs, while Braak led the team at the net with three blocks.

CC won its final match of the day with a 3-0 sweep over Trinity University. The Tigers beat Trinity, 25-22, 25-20, 26-24.

Junior Laura Goldsmith led CC with her seventh double-double of the season with 15 digs and a team-high 15 kills.

Varnell led the Tiger defense with 18 digs. Braak led the team at the net with four blocks, while senior Haley Hamilton added another three.

Schornack led CC with 33 assists against Trinity. With her 33rd assist, Schornack currently has 3,716 career assists and is only two assists away from breaking the Tigers' all-time record in career assists. The record is currently being held by Larissa Enns (1998-01), who got 3,717 career assists during her career at CC.

The Tigers are now 17-5 on the season and 7-1 in SCAC action. Trinity fell to 9-11 on the season and 3-4 in conference play. Dallas dropped to 6-12 this season and 0-6 in conference action.

CC returns home for the SCAC Central Intra-Pod tournament on Oct. 8-9. The Tigers will play Rhodes College at 2 p.m. and Millsaps College at 6 p.m. on Saturday. CC will finish the weekend against Hendrix College at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
