War Hawks battle Falcons in the pool

ABILENE, Texas – McMurry University Men's and Women's Swimming hosted the University of Texas of the Permian Basin in a dual meet Friday, with the Falcons winning the men's dual, 131-62, and the women's dual, 113-56.

Although facing a team from a higher division, the War Hawks were able to pick up a few wins and top-two finishes.

Freshman Alex Satre continued his strong start to his collegiate career, taking second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of :23.25 seconds, the fastest time by a McMurry swimmer this season.

Senior Jerick Pena picked up a pair of second place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. He swam the fly in :55.19 and the backstroke in :57.21.

With the Falcons swimming some events as exhibitions, the War Hawks took advantage to pick up wins and points. Sophomore Cambria Jaramillo recorded a win in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:00.58.

The War Hawks had clean sweeps in both the men's and women's 100-yard breaststroke, with the McM men also claiming first in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

McMurry also honored its four seniors, Monica Flores, Pena, Matthew Vess and Zakai Love before the meet.

Both teams are back in the pool November 16-18 for the Trinity University Invitational in San Antonio.
