PIRATE WOMEN SNAP STREAK WITH 2-1 WIN OVER OGLETHORPE

ATLANTA, Ga. – Southwestern snapped their losing streak on Sunday with a 2-1 win over Oglethorpe University. The Pirates improve to 8-8-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the conference while the Petrels fall to 5-10 and 0-8 in the SCAC.

After a scoreless first half SU got on the board just two minutes into the second period with a goal by sophomore Maria Pollifrone (pictured), assisted by junior Rachel Gibson.

The 1-0 lead was extended when sophomore Jillian Curran scored unassisted in the 57th minute to put SU up 2-0.

Oglethorpe’s come back attempt fell short as they scored one goal in the final five minutes to pull within one, but SU’s solid defense maintained the lead to give the Pirates the win.

Southwestern outshot the Petrels 12-7 with both teams earning eight corner kicks.

The Pirates close out conference action with two home games on Southwestern’s Homecoming weekend. SU faces Hendrix on Friday at 1:00 pm and ends with Rhodes on Sunday at 1:00 pm for Senior Day.
