The Colorado College swimming and diving teams opened their 2019-20 seasons Saturday with the Big Cat Relays at Schlessman Natatorium against Colorado School of Mines and Truman State University.
The Tigers got off to a solid start with a second-place finish in the meet-opening women's 300 butterfly relay against their Division II opponents. Senior
Jio Chang joined freshmen
Kate Brush and
Millie Benkert for a time of 3:03.81.
CC posted several fourth-place results on Saturday, including the 300 backstroke (sophomore
Ana Mashek, freshman
Maddie Heynen and senior
Selma Jukic), 300 breaststroke (junior
Dervla Moore-Frederick, sophomore
Maddie Amick and senior
Hailey Schramm), 200 medley (Benkert, Amick, Brush and freshman
Peyton Wright), 200 freestyle (Wright, Heynen, freshman
Clara Sato and Schramm), 400 IM relay (Jukic, Chang, Mashek and Schramm) and the 400 freestyle relay (Benkert, Sato, Heynen and Wright).
In diving, the Tiger women were the only competitors in the 1-meter event, and freshman
Peyton Classon took home first place with a score of 228.45, followed by senior
Riley Wadehra with 195.68 points.
On the men's side, the foursome of sophomore
Cade Thumann and
Reese Gawronski, junior
Walker Martin and freshman
Topher Shepherd finished third in the 800 freestyle relay, one of sevral third-place results for the Tigers.

Will Barber, sophomore
Will Floyd and Gawronski placed third in the 200 freestyle relay, as did Barber, Gawronski, Martin and Thumann in the 400 freestyle relay.
As with the women, CC had the only divers at the meet, and junior
Casey Block won the 1-meter event, followed by freshman
Mac O'Brien and sophomore
Keelan Woodard.
The Big Cats host SCAC foe Southwestern University on Sunday, Oct. 13 at Schlessman Natatorium, beginning at 1 p.m.
