FIRST HALF DOES IN PIRATES AT HOME

FIRST HALF DOES IN PIRATES AT HOME

GEORGETOWN, Texas – Southwestern women's basketball team allowed 47 first half points and were unable to recover as they fell to East leading DePauw on Saturday night 77-47. The Pirates fall to 13-5 overall and 5-4 in the SCAC and are in danger of losing their one game lead in the West. DePauw improves to 15-3 on the year and 8-1 in the conference.

Two quick three pointers by Lauren Goff put the Tigers up by four points, 8-4, and DePauw continued to steadily build their lead throughout the half. Southwestern went five minutes without scoring late in the opening half allowing the Tigers to mount a 26 point lead, 17-43, a lead that they would take into the locker rooms at halftime, 21-47.

The Pirates came out much harder in the second half but couldn't get a stop on the defensive end as DePauw continued to come at them hard. The Tigers led by as many as 39 in the second half while Southwestern was never able to pull closer than 25 points.
Rebounding was a big key to the Pirate loss as DePauw outrebounded SU 48-33 and had 21 offensive boards to Southwestern's 12. The usual strong perimeter presence was missing for SU as they were 0-10 from long range in the loss.

Shae Seagraves was the lone Pirate in double figures for Southwestern with 10 points. Kate Aldrich had 17 points to lead DePauw.

Southwestern will have to wait until after games on Sunday to know if they are still leading the West. They hit the road once again as they head to face Birmingham Southern who is second in the on Friday night at 6:00 pm.
