CONWAY, Ark. – Southwestern shot well from the floor but
were plagued by turnovers as they dropped Sunday’s SCAC
match-up 85-64 to Hendrix College. The Pirates sit at 6-8 overall
and 2-3 in conference action while Hendrix improves to 9-2 overall
and 4-1 in the SCAC.
The Pirates fell behind early as they struggled from the floor in
the first half, making just eight field goals in the opening frame,
and fell behind 26 heading into the break. Hendrix was able to
build a lead from the SU turnovers, scoring 17 points off of 16
Southwestern first half turnovers.
Despite a continued Pirate attack, Hendrix was able to continue to
build on their lead and went up by 30 four minutes into the second
half. Southwestern was never able to pull closer than 20 as Hendrix
secured the win.
Junior Staley Mullins led with 16 points while midseason transfer
Anna Fareed begins to settle into the Pirate system scoring 15
points.
Southwestern will return home next week where they are 5-2 on the
season to face Sewanee on Friday and Oglethorpe on Saturday. Game
times are set for 6:00 pm in the Robertson Center.
