EXPLOSIVE SECOND HALF KEEPS PIRATES UNBEATEN

GEORGETOWN, Texas - A rousing halftime speech by Coach Don Gregory gave the Pirates the boost they needed as they went on to score three second half goals to defeat Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon. The 3-0 win improves Southwestern to 9-4 on the year and a perfect 6-0 in the SCAC. Millsaps falls to 3-10-1 and 0-6.

The Pirates had many good attacks with balls played out of the midfield, but the set up passes were just long and out of reach of forwards. Neither team was able to put one away as the score remained 0-0 heading into the break.

Keeper Nick Pierce made a huge save early in the second half. A rocketed shot from Harrison tried to sneak inside the near post but Pierce's diving save kept the score 0-0.

Southwestern finally got the goal they had been searching for when the ball was passed around the box and Evan Perkins found Forrest Baker open in front of the goal. Baker one touched his shot into the lower corner for the go-ahead goal.

Perkins was just one foot off of making it a more comfortable 2 goal lead when Tim Hord played a beautiful through ball to Perkins and his shot sailed just high over the crossbar. Perkins got his goal 10 minutes later when he headed home a looping ball played in by Alex Keller to give SU a padded 2-0 lead.

Southwestern was closing out the match playing possession ball but another breakaway gave the Pirates another goal scoring opportunity. Baker played the ball to John Mark Mines who was breaking towards the goal from the left side and all it took was a one touch shot to put SU up 3-0.

The win sets up an epic battle of the unbeatens on Thursday as the Pirates face conference rival Trinity at home. The two teams are the only teams that have not lost or tied an SCAC contest this season. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
