GEORGETOWN, Texas – Junior
Kiona Hsiu (Missouri City, Texas / Elkins) of No. 20/21 Trinity University Women's Golf claimed her first individual title of the 2022-23 season Tuesday afternoon as her second-round 72 (E) vaulted her five places in the final round of the 2023 West Region Invitational, hosted by Southwestern University at the Berry Creek Country Club.
Hsiu cleared the field by two strokes thanks to four birdies in her final round, including both par-fours on either side of her turn from the 18
th pin to the first after opening the shotgun start from the par-five 13
th, which marked her first birdie of the day and put her line to lead the field with a one-under pace on par-fives for the week.
The Tigers finished fourth with a two-round 645 (+69) after marking a collective 11-stroke improvement between rounds. No. 18/20 University of Mary Hardin-Baylor took the team title at 615 (+39) though Trinity was within five shots of runner-up Concordia University and three back of the host Pirates.
Junior
Erin Flynn (League City, Texas / Clear Falls) held on for a top-ten finish in the event with a 157 (+13) while sophomore
Carmen Kennett (Missouri City, Texas / Ridge Point) moved up to a tie for 11
th at 16-over, two shots away from a second top-10 for Trinity.

No. 20/21 Trinity Women's Golf will head to the Riverhill Country Club in Kerrville, Texas for the 2023 SCAC Championship April 17-18, hosted by Schreiner University.
For the first time since 2012, the winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic qualifying bid into the 2023 NCAA III Championships—which will be held at Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida May 9-12.
