Austin College Drops Two to Trinity

SHERMAN, Texas – The Austin College softball team fell twice to Trinity University on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one 10-1 and game two 8-3. The 'Roos are now 0-15 overall on the year and 0-4 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Trinity grabbed an early lead on a two-run homer from Emily Reed in the top of the first, and three more runs would come home in the third to make it a 5-0 game. Brianna Pena doubled home another run in the fourth to put the Tigers ahead 6-0 before Austin College got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Ashley Elliott. However, Trinity would plate four runs in the fifth to make it a 10-1 final.

Elliott went 2-for-2 to pace the 'Roos at the dish as Austin College was limited to four hits as a team. Jordan Proctor went the distance in the circle, surrendering 10 runs – six earned – on 12 hits to absorb the loss.

An early error opened the door for a Trinity run in the first inning of game two, and the lead grew to 2-0 in the third. Austin College cut the margin in half later that inning, with Mari Prazak singling home a run to make it a 2-1 game. That remained the score until the fifth, when Trinity pushed three runs across to go on top 5-1. The Tigers would score three more runs in the seventh to grab an 8-1 lead before Ashley Mayorga and Marisa Duke drove in runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it an 8-3 final.

Prazak and Duke each went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Emma Martinez scored two runs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Taylor Groover took the loss, giving up five runs – three earned – on nine hits in 5.0 innings of work.

Austin College heads out on the road next weekend, taking on Centenary for a four-game set beginning on Saturday as they continue SCAC competition.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
