Bulldogs Fall to No. 20/21 Trinity, 72-52

SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Texas Lutheran suffered its second consecutive conference loss on Wednesday, falling 72-52 to No. 20/21 Trinity at Calgaard Gymnasium in San Antonio.

Sophomore Tanyse Moehrig (Spring Branch/Smithson Valley) and senior Jayla Santa Maria (Edinburg/Edinburg) led TLU (12-8, 9-3 SCAC) in scoring with nine points each. Ashley Reyes (Karnes City/Karnes City) had a team-high seven rebounds in just over eight minutes of action.

Trinity won the tip and nailed a three-pointer on its first possession, but following that bucket, both teams struggled to score. Neither team would shoot above 30% in the first quarter, but the Tigers would take advantage of extra possessions from Bulldogs turnovers - scoring nine points off turnovers in the opening quarter - to take a 14-9 lead at the end of the first.

Juliana Tapia (San Antonio/O'Connor) would get the Bulldogs on the board first to begin a back-and-forth opening sequence to the second quarter. The Bulldogs went bucket for bucket with the Tigers as the turnover issue from the first quarter subsided. Yet, the Tigers were able to extend their lead to nine as they led the Bulldogs 34-25 at the break.

The Tigers opened the second half with a 9-3 run as their lead continued to slowly grow as shooting woes plagued the Bulldogs throughout the period.

The Bulldogs shooting woes would continue in the fourth as they would ultimately fall 72-52 to the Tigers.

Up next, the Bulldogs conclude their five-game in eleven days road trip with a trip to Irving, Texas, to face the Crusaders of the University of Dallas. Tip-off is currently set for 7:30 PM. All streaming and stat links can be found on tlubulldogs.com.
