Tiger Bench Play Overpowers Pirates

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Southwestern held Trinity's starters to just 21 combined points for the game but the Tigers got help in spades off their bench to defeat the Pirates 70-61.

Southwestern led most of the first half, getting hot from there point range. Demetrice Spearman paced the Pirates with 15 first half points going 5-9 from long range. The magic faded in the final three minutes, however, as SU was held scoreless and Trinity took a six point advantage, 36-30, into the break.

The Tigers posted an 11-4 run in the first five minutes of the second half to push their lead to 13. Southwestern chipped away at the lead but ran out of time for the comeback to fall by nine.

Spearman led with 15 points for Southwestern while Nick Atiee added in 12 off the bench. Trinity's Joe Shotland led all scorers with 19 points off the bench for the Tigers. SU was -15 in rebounding margin but +7 in turnovers for the game. Trinity shot an impressive 55% from three point range.

The two teams face off once again on Saturday as Trinity makes the trip north. Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
