Reese nets game winner as CC defeats MSOE

Senior forward Jordan Reese struck for the fifth game-winning goal of his career early in the first half as Colorado College defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 4-1, on Friday afternoon in the opening game of the 2009 Bill Boddington Memorial Tournament at CC's Stewart Field.

The victory was No. 499 for Horst Richardson, who succeeded Boddington in 1966 and now is in his 44th season as head coach of the Tigers. Colorado College improved to 3-4-1 on the season while the Raiders slipped to 5-4-0.

David Van Sicklen and Reese scored in a span of 3:56 to give CC a 2-0 advantage just 13:59 into the game.

Van Sicklen's first goal of the season came on a blast from 28 yards out that found the upper left corner of the net. The winning goal came after Trevor Cobb chipped the ball over the defense and Reese went in alone on MSOE goalkeeper Alex Mejac.

Cobb has been involved in 17 game-winning goals during his career, assisting on nine and scoring eight.

Jordan Werner cut the Raiders' deficit in half when he maneuvered past three CC defenders and beat Brian Engle with a shot from 10 yards out. Werner nearly tied the game 28 seconds later, but was denied by Engle.

Freshman forward Matt Fechter added a pair of insurance goals late in the second half. He scored in an open net after a header by Ben Hancock went over Mejac's head, then completed the first multi-goal game of his career off one-touch passes from Brendan Douglas and Cobb just 4:59 later.

Engle stopped five shots while squaring his season records at 3-3-1. Majec also finished with five saves.

Colorado College plays host to the University of Dallas on Saturday at 2 p.m.
