Softball Falls Twice at Centenary

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Austin College softball team fell to Centenary in both halves of its twinbill on Saturday, dropping game one 4-1 and game two 16-2. The 'Roos are now 0-17 on the year and 0-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The 'Roos grabbed a first inning lead in both games, taking advantage of an error in the top of the first in game one to go on top 1-0. Centenary would quickly take the lead, however, plating three runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-1. The Ladies got one more run in the third to make it 4-1, and that's how things would end in what quickly turned into a defensive battle as Austin College was limited to just five hits, while Centenary managed only seven in the game.

Jordan Proctor suffered the loss, surrendering four runs - three earned - on seven hits in a complete game performance. Five different players collected a hit for the 'Roos, with Jaide Vidal going 1-for-3 and scoring a run in defeat. Cassie Gonzales led Centenary at the plate, going 2-for-2 with two RBI.

Austin College once again scored first in game two, getting an RBI single from Marisa Duke to take a 1-0 lead but once again the Ladies would counter in the bottom half of the inning and go ahead 2-1. Valerie Nixon drove in a run in the second to square things up, but two more runs for the Ladies put Centenary back on top 4-2 after two. Centenary exploded for 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth to put the game away, making it a 16-2 final after five innings.

Taylor Groover took the loss for Austin College, giving up 12 runs - eight earned - on nine hits with five walks in 3.1 innings of work. Once again the 'Roos were held to five hits, with five different players getting one apiece. Vidal and Ashley Elliott each had a hit and scored a run in the loss.

Austin College and Centenary will wrap up their series on Sunday with another doubleheader scheduled for a noon start.
