Texas Lutheran Upends Dallas 2-1

SEGUIN, TX -- Texas Lutheran picked up a crucial SCAC victory Friday night, taking a 2-1 victory over University of Dallas at Gustafson Field.

Senior Samantha Martinez (Schertz/Clemens) found the back of the net twice for Texas Lutheran (5-9, 2-3 SCAC). In goal for the Bulldogs, Charleigh Phipps (Dripping Springs/Dripping Springs) made seven saves on the day.

With the loss, University of Dallas moves to 7-5, 2-2 in the SCAC.

Martinez got the Bulldogs on the board first scoring off of an assist from Allison Avery (Houston/Cy-Falls) in the 19th minute.

The Crusaders would respond two minutes with later with a goal of their own to tie things at one. That is where the score would remain for the remainder of the half. As the feeling of overtime began to hang over Gustafson Field, Martinez struck again - this time with an unassisted goal; her third of the season - to put the Bulldogs ahead 2-1 in the 74th minute.

University of Dallas held the possession and shot advantage but the Bulldogs took advantage of their chances - netting two of their three shots on goal.

The Bulldogs will face the Austin College 'Roos on Sunday in a pivotal conference matchup at 12 PM. Sunday will be Senior Day for the Bulldogs as they will honor their 4 seniors (Martinez, Bella Probasco, Monique Sierra, and Brittany Casarez).
